Parks, road verges, churchyards and brownfield sites can all support valuable communities of plants and animals with a little appropriate management.
Our FlowerScapes seed mixes are ideal for providing pollen and nectar for bees, butterflies and other insects. There is no need to worry about using native species in an urban context, so the range of plant species available is much wider. Our 'Summer Bee' mix contains 40 species, all of known value to bees, and looks stunning.
In the wider countryside, it is important to use appropriate native species. All the material we offer is guaranteed UK native provenance, wherever possible sourced locally to your site.
Cornfield annuals are the best choice for fast, spectacular results. Bear in mind, though, that cornfield species are annuals and will need ground disturbance each year to maintain a stunning display.
Meadows are less labour-intensive but slower to develop. If you are not in a hurry and can undertake one or two annual mowings, virtually any patch of ground can be turned into a species-rich meadow that will benefit invertebrates and small mammals.
On acid soils the options are more limited, but an attractive low-maintenance heathland flora, including heather and its relatives, can be established with ease.
And if you are fortunate enough to have a patch of existing habitat that is perhaps in need of a little TLC, we can advise on the most appropriate management to bring it back to its best.
Tree planting is often seen as the easiest and most obvious form of habitat creation. We can help with the selection of appropriate, locally-sourced native tree species, as well as seeds or plug-plants to speed the establishment of a ground flora.
