On 28th November 2006 the Secretary of Sate for Education and Skills launched the Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto. The rationale behind the manifesto is that every young person should experience the outside world as part of their learning and personal development, regardless of their circumstances.
A wildlife garden can become an integral part of the curriculum, providing a great resource for teaching. With a little imagination, the wildlife garden can be used as a teaching resource in all subject areas, not just science, and in all key stages.

The Government in England wants every school to be a sustainable school by 2020. The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) launched their Sustainable Schools Framework in 2006, which sets out challenging long-term aspirations for schools to mainstream learning about sustainable development issues and sustainable practices into everyday school life.
Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life.
Once registered, schools follow a simple seven-step process which helps them to address a variety of environmental themes, ranging from litter and waste to healthy living and biodiversity.
Schools work towards gaining one of three awards – Bronze, Silver and the prestigious Green Flag award, which symbolises excellence in the field of environmental activity. Bronze and Silver are both self accredited through this website and Green Flag is externally assessed by Keep Britain Tidy.
We can provide advice on all aspects of sustainability in schools and help towards achieving Bronze, Silver or even Green Flag status.
